Somatic Release Techniques
Most talking therapy focuses on the mind and changing unhelpful thoughts and ways of behaving on a cognitive level. However, for many people this type of talking therapy only takes them so far.
They can learn why they feel what they feel, where it comes from, and challenge their thoughts and behaviours. However, they still have the feelings come up from a physical place, the physical tensions and stress patterns are still there, and feel the physical need to do what they know is not helpful or good for them.
Key books such as 'The Body Keeps the Score' by Van De Kolk (on the New York Times Bestseller list for 4 years), shows how trauma, deep emotion and behaviour patterns are actually “remembered” by the body.
They keep showing up until they are released from the body. Somatic techniques look to release these from the place they have been stuck.
